residential design | landscape hybridisation | process multidisciplinary opportunities

The facade of the RMIT textiles building in Cremorne. Stumbled across this one while going for a run on Saturday morning; interesting what facade patterning can occur depending on:

  • council (Yarra)
  • area (semi-industrial/institutional. Read: mixed use)
  • surroundings
  • typology (institutional building – needs to visibly demonstrate its purpose of education)
  • institution (RMIT – a major university)

Would that have occurred on a residential building a few kms north in central Richmond?

these are exotec panels from JH yes? screams parapeted entry portal renovation to a 1960s house-come-child care centre in (insert middle ring suburb) to me! I am interested in your contention…are you implying that Council’s should accept patterned facade systems within established residential areas? or are you commenting on the reluctance to explore such materials by developers / architects in residential areas?
